Our first site specific project since we designed visuals for U2's Popmart tour way back when. This short film was conceived as the centrepiece of the UAE Pavilion at the 2020 Expo, to reflect on how the country has evolved from a collection of small desert communities into a hi-tech society within just eighty years. The pavilion itself was only completed about ten minutes before the Expo opened, so we had to build the entire auditorium in VR to try and imagine how the audience would ultimately experience the film in real life. Thankfully everything fitted the screen when we finally got to see it projected for real. Mostly animated in 2d with a 3d engine for landscapes, vfx and camera moves.
